Mutiny Exploited: Jan 26, 2025
Punk-rock-fashion set 2025 off, middle fingers up, in a radical tribute to the legend of Vivienne Westwood. The dual-runway ran back-to-back across two indie spaces on Broadway: Mutiny and Easel. Produced by mastermind Skye Barker Maa, the Factory Fashion event was intimate and defiant, a guerilla response to sinister forces casting dark shadows from afar.
Sustainable street brand Equilibrium stormed the runway raising a flag to rebellion. Black and white bars climbed up in hostile critique of the status quo. Equal sign blazing on a black field in a skull and crossbones of resistance. Brandi and Mona, OG fashion vets in their own right, stepped into the spotlight to support, altogether bringing decades of local fashion history. If you know, you know.

International sweetheart Tokiprism gave dystopian crushcore. A young rebel wore stripes and patchwork, jagged red elbows stabbed with pins, as if encouraging blood. Scissor motifs cut throughout in a symbol of beauty and pain. A heroine followed in white plaid, a dark heart stitched across her chest in soft violence. Hair like bright fire, streaking through a world without color.

Bad girl club favorite, Ephemeral Concrete threw bleach on my heart in an acid attack of chemically distressed fabrics. One standout look pierced the fallout, a skeletal denim jacket carved into an open ribcage, its negative space exposed. Toxicity on and off the runway. We’re not friends.

Local rockstar Sophia LaBelle-Plott walked for MadVan Design and summoned hell on earth. Screaming at the end of the runway, they dropped to the floor in a fit of rage, thrashing and moshing, shouting out from the depths of their soul. The experience captured the raw collective energy in the atmosphere, crying and dying for acceptance.

Cult label Skye Aire closed the night in reverence, holding presence for silence. A barricade of models stood shoulder to shoulder, transforming the runway in living monument. Sharing a single garment, two models emerged as one, twin faces in a double hooded cocoon. The fabric was watermelon crimson, punctured holes like breath marks. New age ceremonial vestments in futuristic ritual.

All my friends and enemies were in the crowd and later at the club. Caught up with the gang from Team Nonexistent and hit the underground pizza spot like ninja turtles, positive energy all around. Consensus: Fashion is revolution: Sudden change in the face of an instant. Raw expression, beautiful and vulnerable and bold. ☮️
